CFPB Payment Rule Guidance for Notifications

The CFPB payment rule is set to take effect on March 31, 2025.  The rule is currently in limbo, but if you wish to start complying, there are two components to setting up automatic notifications in Intro XL- the email templates- should be templates and the notifications (business rules which trigger the automatic e mail):

Email Templates: Email templates can be created by your Admin level user by going to Admin > Email Template Maint. Create a new template with the name of the template, the title of the email that will show in the subject line of the e mail and the details of the e mail body. At the bottom of this post, you can copy and paste the sample templates. The verbiage in [brackets] will populate with personalized loan, payment or borrower information.

Notifications: Go to Admin > Notifications Maint. The CFPB Payment Rule indicates notifications are required at least three (3) days in advance of the scheduled payment and no earlier than seven (7) days prior to the scheduled payment date. In order to create notifications for the required triggers, the following options can utilized

  • Notification Type “Scheduled Payment” – Used to set up the First Payment Notice as well as Unusual Withdrawal Notice (alternate template)
  • Notification Type “Consecutive NSF’s” – Used to automate contact after the two (2) failed consecutive attempts.
